FEKDI 2022 G20 Series of Events
Let us take a closer look at the G20-related event series held in Indonesia from July 11 to
July 15 at the Westin Hotel, Bali. Organized by Bank Indonesia and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the event—titled the Indonesian Digital Economy and Finance Festival (FEKDI)—carried the theme "Advancing Digital Economy and Finance: Synergetic and Inclusive Ecosystem for Accelerated Recovery." Open to the general public, the event offered activities over five days in both online and offline formats. Daily topics included Collaboration and Synergies, Digital Currency, Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Activities, Cross-Border Payments, and Government and Industry Strategies on Digitalization.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto attended the event, representing President Joko Widodo. Also present were Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate, and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy attended virtually, while thousands of members of the public watched via a hybrid format. Speaking of the hybrid format, the event also aimed to drive the Fourth Industrial Revolution—or Industry 4.0—as the world focuses on new digital technologies. Industry 4.0 represents a phenomenon where cyber technology and automation technology collaborate to create conveniences we can experience firsthand, all through the devices in the palms of our hands.
Various sectors of life—ranging from the economy, education, and social affairs to transportation and infrastructure development—are being facilitated by digitalization; however, digitalization cannot operate in isolation. It requires driving forces to set it in motion. Consequently, Bank Indonesia took the initiative to collaborate with ministries, institutions, associations, and all industry players within the digital economic and financial ecosystem. The goal was to foster digital innovation and accelerate national economic recovery. One such initiative was the organization of the 2022 Indonesian Digital Economy and Finance Festival (FEKDI 2022) in partnership with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
FEKDI 2022 was part of the G20 event series under the Finance Track of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency. Embodying the spirit of "Recover Together," the event highlighted the need for regional and global connectivity across various sectors driven by digital technology. The objective was to establish cross-border payment systems that are fast, affordable, convenient, reliable, and secure. Furthermore, FEKDI 2022 served as a showcase of Indonesia’s progress to the world and acted as an accelerator for strengthening regional and global cooperation in digitalization. Beyond showcasing digital innovations in financial services, the event featured diverse booths, including one dedicated to the education sector known as "Digital Learning Vocational." This booth was supported by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and GIZ TVET—clients of GroovyEO for the G20 event series. GIZ TVET demonstrated to the public how VR technology can be utilized in education, particularly within vocational training. Event attendees had the opportunity to experience VR firsthand and view various educational materials provided at the booth.
Indonesian Event Organizers Contribute to G20 Presidency Activities
The successful execution of the G20 Presidency relied heavily on the support of various stakeholders—including government bodies, private organizations, and corporate entities—as well as essential service providers such as event organizers, the hospitality industry, transport services, and caterers. A wide range of parties collaborated to ensure the success of this major 2022 event, which took place across Indonesia. Consequently, there was a need to train the public on how to welcome guests with hospitality, ensuring their comfort and safety, while also introducing them to the latest technological advancements. This is where the contribution of event organizers was crucial in underpinning the successful delivery of the G20 Presidency.
Tasked with ensuring the event ran smoothly, event organizers had to be agile and quickly adapt to their duties, even when operating in unfamiliar environments. Their responsibilities ranged from arranging accommodation for international delegates and selecting venues to managing catering, scheduling activities, sourcing equipment, and addressing urgent client needs. Naturally, the selected event organizers had to meet rigorous standards to ensure they were fully capable of executing the G20 Presidency events with excellence. GroovyEO was one of the Indonesian event organizers selected to contribute to the G20 Presidency. Working with our client, GIZ TVET, Groovy provided a skilled team to manage the "Digital Learning Vocational" booth, which utilized VR technology for educational purposes.

The trend of digitalization in the event industry is inevitably influenced by—and in turn influences—societal lifestyle changes. Clearly, this digitalization trend has shaped the operational methods of event organizers, marking a positive technological evolution for this type of business..
